The IMPACT of mentoring

".....Mentoring can improve academic performance, school attendance, graduation rates, and attitudes. But, the power of a mentor runs deeper than numbers may indicate. Messages of empowerment — “I believe in you,” “you’re worthy of this opportunity,” “I think you have what it takes,” “it’s okay to try and fail,” — help recognize and unleash a student’s potential, which can change the trajectory of a life." - www.stand-together.org

Georgia, 17th Highest Teen Birth Rate

According to the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power and Potential, Georgia has the 17th highest teen birth rate in the United States. Georgia also ranks the fourth highest in the country in repeat teen births.

Foster Care

In the foster care system alone, 48% of girls become pregnant by the age of 19. While a third of 17 yr. old girls in the system are already pregnant.

Although teen pregnancy and birth rates have dropped the past two decades, states still face the reality that black and Latina teens are more than twice as likely as white teens to become pregnant.

Family First Preservation Act
